Summary
The Maritime Center of Excellence is a 20,000 sqft LEED Gold building internally framed with 23 structural glulam arches to create the look of an upside-down boat when looking at the ceiling. It consists of two main sections: A boat shop, where the Coast Guard will be able to clean and work on boats up to ~ 45 feet long; and a welcome center with floor to ceiling windows where the Alumni can host events and provide teaching for the Coast Guard.
This building overlooks the Thames River and will become the focal point for the Coast Guard as it’s visible from not only the water, but the Gold Star Bridge in Groton Connecticut.
