Scope:
Key mechanical system features include: a 200kW fuel cell that produces electricity and hot water for the heating system and is estimated to prevent the release of more than 270 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere annually, 12 steam and chilled water air handling units providing for the effective delivery and mixing of fresh air “to support the health, safety, and comfort of building occupants,” and a permanent carbon dioxide monitoring system that provides feedback on space ventilation performance.
Summary:
Grodsky was the LEED accredited mechanical contractor of choice for the Connecticut Science Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing science education throughout the state of Connecticut and committed to “being green.” Part of the 30-acre Adriaen’s Landing Development overlooking the Connecticut River in downtown Hartford, it is easily distinguished by its “magic carpet” shaped cantilevered roof, angular shape, and extensive glass exterior.
