Scope:
To prepare a turnkey solution to a 36,000sf building that required heating and cooling in one of the Campus’s Museum buildings. Along with maintaining the strict requirements for heating, cooling and humidity in the building we were also from responsible for improving the humidity levels collection storage area which would allow for them to bring in a greater sampling of artifacts.
Summary:
Grodsky’s relationship with the Springfield Museums goes back more than 25 years. We have assisted the Museum Association in upgrading the mechanical systems in their Museum of Fine Arts on a Design Build basis. The purpose of the project was to obtain the necessary temperature and humidity levels which would allow the display of traveling exhibits. Since that successful project, Design Build has been the only way to go at the Museums. Recently we were the Design Build mechanical contractor for the construction of the new Springfield Transportation Museum. This project is a great example of the effective reuse of an existing building, converting an old 30,000 sf building into an exhibition and archive space with all new mechanical systems and strict temperature and humidity controls.
